Some scholars maintain that Prince Alexander, b. 1942, (son of King Leopold III's marriage to Lilian Baels, who was never accorded the title of queen, and half-brother to King Albert II) was legally in line to the throne until his 1991 marriage to Léa Wolman, for which he did not ask permission from king Baudouin of Belgium. In theory, the king could have restored his rights to the throne, however, the Specific Terms accompanying the Constitution of 1991, clearly provide that only the descendants of King Albert II are in line to the throne, thus making the question null and void.
